Rector Alma Inspected the "Almond Garden" Located in the Martyr Bülent Yurtseven Campus.

Our University Rector Prof. Dr. Mehmet Hakkı Alma inspected the almond garden established in 2019 on the Şehit Bülent Yurtseven Campus, which yielded its first harvest last year.

To review the ongoing work, Rector Alma visited the orchard and met with the Director of the Agricultural Application and Research Center (TUAM), Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ramazan Gürbüz, and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ersin Gülsoy, a faculty member of the Department of Horticulture who established the almond orchard. During the visit, Rector Alma received information about the ongoing efforts and projects.
After the inspections, Rector Alma emphasized the importance of the work in the field of "High Value-Added Agricultural Products," stating, "We harvested the first crop of almonds from our almond orchard located in Şehit Bülent Yurtseven Campus last year. The work we are conducting with the Agricultural Application and Research Center (TUAM) is a significant step in identifying almond varieties suitable for the region's ecology and expanding cultivation. We believe that these efforts will continue to yield fruitful results, and we will further advance our agricultural research."
There Are 8 Different Types of Almonds and 150 Trees in the Garden
In 2019, an almond orchard was established on our university's Şehit Bülent Yurtseven Campus. The orchard, which includes 8 different almond varieties, is also a site for significant research aimed at identifying the varieties that can adapt to the Iğdır region's ecology.
Following the identification of species adapted to the regional climate, the expansion of cultivation in the region is also among the targets.
